The PhD Researcher will be part of the Industrial AI and Data Modelling research group at Swansea University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, and will be affiliated with the Materials and Manufacturing Academy research community.
The PhD Researcher will also collaborate with the Made Smarter Innovation – Materials Made Smarter Research Centre, a collaboration between five top UK universities, including Sheffield, UCL, Brunel, Cambridge, Nottingham, and Swansea.
The goal of the research project is to integrate these new data streams with existing hot mill data, use various data analytics techniques combined with physical modeling to turn the data into useful information, and collaborate with industry partners to better understand the hot rolling process and negotiate the plant’s existing IT infrastructure.
